About Xiǎowūguī Lighthouse

The Xiǎowūguī lighthouse stands on a rock in Hángzhōu Bay, west of the southern end of the Dōnghǎi Bridge. This concrete tower, built in 1969, is 11 meters tall and features a cylindrical, round barbell shape covered in black and white horizontal bands of ceramic tiles. It is situated approximately 8 kilometers northeast of the Tángnǎoshān lighthouse. Access to the lighthouse is limited to boat, with landings on the rock being difficult. The site and tower are closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse warned mariners of the submerged rock it marks near the southern approach to the Dōnghǎi Bridge. Its distinctive black and white banded tower served as a clear daymark within busy shipping lanes.
