About Xiǎoqīngjiāo Lighthouse
Also known as: #Xiǎoqīngjiāo (Qīng Jiāo)
Established in 1992, the Xiǎoqīngjiāo lighthouse marked a reef at the southwest end of Xiàmén harbor. The structure consisted of a round concrete pier supporting an 18-meter cylindrical fiberglass tower. This tower was painted with red and white horizontal bands and had a distinct hourglass shape. It served as a navigational aid for vessels entering or leaving the port. However, the lighthouse ceased operation by 2008 and has since been removed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was positioned to warn ships about a dangerous reef at the southwest entrance to Xiàmén harbor, a critical shipping lane. It played a role in ensuring the safe passage of vessels through this busy port for over a decade.
