About Spetses Lighthouse
The Spetses lighthouse, built in 1885, is a 10-meter tall, two-stage cylindrical stone tower with green trim. Its lantern and gallery sit atop the old-style masonry structure. First lit in 1837, the lighthouse emits a white and red light that flashes every 5 seconds, marking the east side of the Spetses harbor entrance. The focal height of the light is 27 meters above sea level, providing a geographic range of 14.7 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located on a promontory within the Municipality of Spetses, approximately 0.6 km from the port of Spetsai.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for guiding vessels into and out of Spetses harbor, helping them avoid the promontory. Its directional light offers specific guidance for the harbor's eastern approach.
