About Skinári Lighthouse
Built in 1897, the Skinári Lighthouse stands on Cape Skinari, the northernmost point of Zákynthos island in the Ionian Sea. This cylindrical stone tower, standing 9 meters tall, is situated 66 meters above sea level. It emits a white flash every 5 seconds, visible for nearly 21 nautical miles. The structure comprises a round rubblestone tower with a lantern and gallery, attached to a one-story keeper's house. The lantern was replaced around 2002, and the lighthouse remains operational.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides vessels around the challenging northern tip of Zákynthos, an important navigational point for local and regional shipping.
