About Shíkēngyǔzǐ Lighthouse
Also known as: Shíkēngyǔzǐ (Tudao, Tu Dao)
Built in 1992, this concrete lighthouse stands 10.5 meters tall with a focal height of 22 meters. Its cylindrical tower displays black and white horizontal bands. The light emitted two white flashes. Located on a mainland promontory opposite Xiàméndǎo's southwest tip, it was near the port of Zhangzhou. The lighthouse was listed by the Admiralty but removed in 2020. It was inactive for an unknown period, with its light eventually obscured by nearby urban development.
Why it matters: This lighthouse's significance stems from its brief operational life, demonstrating how rapid urban expansion can render traditional navigational aids obsolete.
