About Rumeli Lighthouse
Also known as: Türkeli Feneri
This white, quadrilateral metal lighthouse stands 58 meters tall, with its light also positioned at 58 meters above sea level. Operational since it was first built, it emits a white light with a flashing characteristic. The structure also includes a radar reflector. Situated on the European side of Istanbul, it marks the northern end of the Bosphorus Strait where it meets the Black Sea. The village near the lighthouse shares the same name.
Why it matters: The Rumeli Lighthouse, along with the Anadolu Lighthouse two nautical miles away, defines the northern boundary of the Port of Istanbul.
