About Round Island Lighthouse
Also known as: Round Island (Trincomalee, Kevuliya)
Constructed in 1863, the Round Island Lighthouse is a white, cylindrical masonry tower standing 21 meters tall. Its light is positioned at a focal height of 31 meters. The lighthouse emits three white flashes every 15 seconds, visible for 15.5 nautical miles. Originally, a skeletal tower surrounded the lantern to raise the light's elevation, but this structure has since been removed. The lighthouse is located about 3.2 kilometers from Trincomalee.
Why it matters: The white sector of the light functions as a leading line for vessels entering Trincomalee harbor.
