The Reef Point Lighthouse is a 3-meter tall cylindrical structure made of white fiberglass, standing on an isolated headland west of Ahihara. It emits a white light with two flashes every 10 seconds from a focal height of 65 meters. This navigational aid has a geographic range of 20.8 nautical miles. The site itself is open to visitors, though access to the tower is restricted. Located about 100 kilometers south-southeast of Cape Reinga, it serves the waters off New Zealand's North Island.
Why it matters: This light marks the coast near an area historically significant for kauri gum harvesting.
