About Punta Soldado Lighthouse
The Punta Soldado lighthouse is a square skeletal tower standing 47 meters tall, distinguished by red and white horizontal bands. It is situated on the south side of the entrance to Bahia de Buenaventura. This structure, located 7.3 kilometers from the nearest port of Buenaventura, was designed to aid vessels entering one of Colombia's busiest ports. While the light is no longer active, the tower remains operational and now hosts a radar antenna.
Why it matters: The tower's continued use as a radar platform is important for modern navigation and traffic control at the entrance to Bahia de Buenaventura, Colombia's principal Pacific port.
