A skeletal mast made of concrete stands 16 meters tall at Punta las Vacas. The structure features red and white horizontal bands and is mounted on a small concrete equipment shelter. Its light, visible for 12.7 nautical miles, emits a white flash every 6 seconds. The lighthouse is situated on the east side of the Gulf of Urabá, near Turbo, Colombia. This location places it south of Turbo, a regional capital and the South American end of the Pan-American Highway.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guides vessels entering and leaving Turbo, a key port city and the South American terminus of the Pan-American Highway.
