Psathoúra Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Psathoúra Lighthouse
Built of stone in 1895, the Psathoúra lighthouse stands 25 meters tall at the island's highest point. Its cylindrical, white tower is topped with a green dome. The structure includes a lantern and gallery, attached to a single-story keeper's house. This light emits a white flash every 10 seconds, visible for over 17 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated on a small, uninhabited island at the northeastern edge of the Northern Sporades. While the site is open to visitors, the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for maritime traffic, specifically guiding ships on their critical approach to Thessaloníki, ensuring safe passage around the scattered Northern Sporades islands.
