Ponnani Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Ponnani Lighthouse
The Ponnani Lighthouse, constructed in 1983, stands 30 meters tall on the outskirts of Ponnani, south of the Bharathpuzha river entrance. This 12-sided concrete tower displays distinctive black and white horizontal bands. The current structure replaced an earlier skeletal tower erected in 1948, which in turn succeeded a mast light established in 1937. Its white light emits a single flash every 15 seconds. The site is accessible to the public, though the tower itself is closed for climbing. Its geographic range extends to 15.9 nautical miles.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for vessels approaching the Bharathpuzha river entrance, serving as a key navigational aid in this coastal region.
