Location & Light Range
About Pláka Lighthouse
Constructed in 1912, the Pláka Lighthouse is a cylindrical stone tower measuring 18 meters high, topped with a green dome. It stands on a sharp promontory at the northeastern corner of Lémnos, approximately 3 km north of the village of Pláka. The structure includes a lantern and gallery attached to a one-story stone keeper's house. Its light emits a white flash every 30 seconds from a focal height of 55 meters, visible for nearly 19.5 nautical miles. The lighthouse site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for safe navigation around Lémnos, warning vessels away from the northeastern promontory. Its light characteristic provides clear identification for mariners.
