About Patras Lighthouse
Also known as: Patras (replica)
The current Patras Lighthouse, a cylindrical stone tower standing 13 meters tall, was built in 1999. It features a lantern and gallery atop a one-story keeper's house constructed from stone. The focal height of its white light is 17.07 meters, providing a geographic range of 12.4 nautical miles. This structure is a replica of the original lighthouse, which was demolished in 1972. The original structure had been established in 1880. The replica was meticulously recreated to mirror the original design.
Why it matters: This lighthouse holds a unique place in the city's identity, not only as a navigational aid for the busy harbor but also as a symbol of civic pride and resilience. Its reconstruction underscores the community's deep appreciation for its maritime heritage.
