About Pasás Lighthouse
Also known as: Pasás (Oinousés)
Constructed in 1885, Pasás Lighthouse is an 8-meter tall, round stone tower. The structure includes a lantern and gallery, and is connected to a single-story stone dwelling for the keeper. Located on a small island at the northern edge of the Chíos Strait, it serves as a marker for a significant navigational hazard. The lighthouse is approximately 25 kilometers northeast of Chíos town and 8 kilometers west of the Turkish shoreline. Its white light, visible for 21.3 nautical miles, flashes every 20 seconds from an elevation of 69 meters. The closest harbor, Inousses, is 3.4 kilometers distant.
Why it matters: This lighthouse provides a navigation aid in the northern Chíos Strait, a frequently used sea route between Greece and Turkey, warning mariners of a considerable hazard within the channel.
