About Nagoya City Lighthouses Lighthouse
This white, cylindrical lighthouse stood 20 meters tall and was located in the inner harbor of Nagoya, Japan. It marked the west side of the eastern entrance to a storm tide breakwater, situated east of a large artificial island. The tower featured a lantern and gallery and was painted white. It guided vessels entering and exiting the port, specifically through the eastern opening of the breakwater. The lighthouse ceased operations in 2012 and was demolished shortly thereafter, leaving no physical trace of the structure.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for safe navigation through the eastern entrance of Nagoya's storm tide breakwater, a critical piece of infrastructure protecting the inner harbor.
