About Moudari Lighthouse
Also known as: Moudari (Mudari, Ákra Spathi)
Built in 1857, this octagonal stone lighthouse is now a ruined structure attached to its original keeper's house. It stands on a cape in Attica, Greece, approximately 200 meters north of a modern lighthouse that has since replaced it. The Moudari lighthouse had a focal height of 114 meters and a geographic range of 26.3 nautical miles. Its operational life was brief, ceasing in 1901. The tower emitted three white flashes every 30 seconds during its active period.
Why it matters: The remains of the octagonal stone tower offer insight into 19th-century lighthouse construction in the region and mark a point of navigational significance on the cape.
