About Monte Serrat Lighthouse
Also known as: Monte Serrat (Ponta do Humaitá)
The Monte Serrat lighthouse is a cylindrical concrete tower standing 10 meters tall, first lit in 1864 near the historic Forte Monte Serrat. The current structure, built in 1935, features red and white horizontal bands. It emits a single red flash every 10 seconds, visible for 10.4 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located on a promontory on the east side of Bahia Todos os Santos, approximately 10 kilometers north of Farol da Barra. While the grounds are open to the public, the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for safe navigation within the Bahia Todos os Santos, guiding ships around the promontory where Forte Monte Serrat stands. Its distinctive conical tower, painted with bold red and white horizontal bands, serves as a visual landmark for mariners.
