About Lìyán Lighthouse
Also known as: Lìyán (Lì Yǔ, Zhuàngyuán'ào Shān)
A round, cylindrical concrete tower, standing 10 meters tall and painted white with red trim, was built in 2002 off the western tip of Zhuàngyuán'ào island. This structure, which has a gallery and is covered in ceramic tiles, replaced an earlier station established in 1954. The light emits a white flash every 4 seconds from a focal height of 17 meters, with a geographic range of 12.4 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated on the north side of the Dòngtóu Channel, about 1.6 kilometers from the nearest port on Zhuàngyuán'ào. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guides vessels approaching bridges that connect Zhuàngyuán'ào to the neighboring island of Qiánménshān.
