This concrete lighthouse, built in 1921, stands as a cylindrical white structure 4 meters tall on the northwestern end of Lung Kwu Chau island. Situated 53.5 meters above sea level, its light emits a single white flash every 5 seconds, visible for 19.2 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located in the Zhujiang estuary, about 5 kilometers southwest of Lan Kok Tsui. In the 1990s, the lighthouse was moved to the west to accommodate the construction of Chek Lap Kok airport. It is situated approximately 3.2 kilometers from the port of Tuen Mun.
Why it matters: The lighthouse has been significant for guiding maritime traffic through the Zhujiang estuary. Its relocation in the 1990s demonstrates its continued necessity through major infrastructural developments.
