Originally a crewed station, it was converted to automatic operation in 1985. The lightfloat was replaced in 2015 and subsequently relocated to Shanghai for display at the China Maritime Museum. It was positioned about 12 km southwest of the Liáo River mouth and the harbor of Yíngkǒu.
