About Lightfloat Mǎyǒushí Lighthouse
The Lightfloat Mǎyǒushí is a cylindrical steel structure, standing 30 meters tall, with a focal height of 7 meters. It is painted red and features a square cylindrical skeletal tower topped with a slatted daymark. This daymark is painted white with a black vertical stripe. The light emits a white flash every 6 seconds and has a geographic range of 9.3 nautical miles. It was temporarily withdrawn in 2012. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lightfloat is essential for safe navigation in the busy estuary east of Lantau Island, particularly near the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge-Tunnel. Its distinctive light characteristic guides vessels through this critical shipping lane.
