About Île Kuriat Lighthouse
Also known as: Île Kuriat (Jazirat Qurayyat)
The Île Kuriat lighthouse was built in 1894 from masonry and stands 26 meters tall. It is a square tower that rises from a one-story keeper's house, topped with a lantern and gallery. The operational light emits a red flash every 5 seconds to the north and a white flash every 5 seconds to the south, with a focal height of 30 meters. This light has a geographic range of 15.3 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated on a small, uninhabited island approximately 20 kilometers east of Monastir, Tunisia.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels of the low-lying Île Kuriat and its surrounding waters, which present a navigational hazard. Its sector light provides specific directional information to mariners in an otherwise open stretch of sea.
