The Kutubdia Lighthouse, located on Kutubdia Island, Bangladesh, is a square pyramidal skeletal tower with a lantern and gallery, standing 35 meters tall. Its focal height reaches 39 meters, and it emits a white flash every 10 seconds, with a geographic range of 16.9 nautical miles. This station was established in 1846, though the original masonry structure has been lost to erosion. The current operational lighthouse, first noted in February 2005, carries on the site's long history of maritime guidance. The tower itself is not open to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels of the northwestern coast of Kutubdia Island and helps safeguard shipping routes approaching Chittagong.
