About Kodikkarai Lighthouse
This cylindrical masonry lighthouse, built in 1997, stands 45 meters tall and features horizontal red and white bands. Its light emits a single white flash every 10 seconds from a focal height of 45 meters. The lighthouse is located near Calimere Point, approximately 9 kilometers west-southwest of the older Calimere Point Light. The lantern currently in use was previously part of the Pulicat Light. This active navigational aid is situated in Tamil Nadu, India, with its nearest port being Nagappattinam, 29 kilometers away.
Why it matters: The reuse of the lantern from Pulicat Light gives this modern structure a unique connection to India's maritime heritage. Its distinct light characteristic helps differentiate it from the nearby Calimere Point Light.
