About Kōngtóngdǎo Lighthouse
Also known as: Kōngtóngdǎo (Kongtong dǎo, Kungtungtao, Chefoo, Luson)
The original Kōngtóngdǎo Lighthouse, constructed in 1867, featured a round stone tower with red and white horizontal bands. This structure served near the port of Zhīfú (Chefoo). During World War II, the lighthouse sustained heavy damage, leading to its deactivation. The original tower's lowest story endures, now capped by a narrower concrete structure housing communications equipment. The lighthouse exhibits a white flash every 15 seconds, visible for 22.4 nautical miles from a focal height of 78 meters. The site is accessible to visitors, though the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse aided navigation for the port of Zhīfú.
