The Kepez Lighthouse stands on a cape on the Asiatic side of the Dardanelles, about 10 kilometers southwest of Çanakkale. This cylindrical cast iron tower, standing 10 meters tall, was built in 1936. It displays a white light with two black horizontal bands. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every 5 seconds, visible for over 10 nautical miles. Its construction includes a lantern, gallery, and four ribs.
Why it matters: The Kepez Lighthouse marks the beginning of the narrowest part of the Dardanelles strait, a critical point for maritime traffic.
