Kalk Bay Breakwater Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Kalk Bay Breakwater Lighthouse
Constructed in 1919, the Kalk Bay Breakwater Lighthouse is a 5-meter-high, round tapered stone tower situated at the extremity of the south breakwater. It marks the entry point to Kalk Bay harbor. The structure, with a focal height of 7 meters, projects a white light that flashes once every 15 seconds, detectable up to 9.3 nautical miles. Built of stone, this cylindrical marker guides craft into the leisure harbor near Vishoek, located on False Bay's western side. Access to the site is permitted, though entry into the tower is restricted.
Why it matters: This light serves as a primary navigation aid for recreational and fishing vessels entering and leaving Kalk Bay harbor, clearly indicating the termination of the south breakwater.
