About Jīnguāngjiāo Lighthouse
Also known as: #Jīnguāngjiāo (Gold Reef)
This lighthouse consisted of a round, cylindrical concrete tower, 9 meters tall, painted red and mounted on a concrete pier. It stood on a reef north of Zhōushān Island, opposite Shàngyuánshān, near commercial and naval piers. Its light produced a single white flash every 6 seconds, visible for 14.5 nautical miles. The focal height of the light was 26 meters. The lighthouse was operational but has since been removed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was important for vessels navigating the busy approaches to the piers on Zhōushān Island, warning them of submerged hazards in a highly trafficked maritime zone.
