Ilha do Pará Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Ilha do Pará Lighthouse
The Ilha do Pará Lighthouse is a square skeletal tower constructed of steel, standing 30 meters tall. Its white metal panels cover the structure, and the focal height of the light is 33 meters. The current tower was built in the 1990s and is located on an island just north of the entrance to the Canal do Norte, which is the northernmost major mouth of the Amazon River. This light emits a white flash every 10 seconds and has a geographic range of 15.9 nautical miles. The lighthouse was briefly delisted by the Admiralty in March 2021 before being relisted later that year.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for maritime traffic navigating the Canal do Norte, serving as the primary guide into the Amazon River's northernmost major channel. Its relisting after a brief delisting underscores its enduring operational necessity for Amazonian navigation.
