The Ilha da Moela Lighthouse, constructed of masonry, stands as a cylindrical white tower with a lantern and gallery. First lit in 1830, the tower rises 10 meters high, with its focal height reaching 110 meters. This light emits a group flashing white and red signal every 60 seconds, visible for approximately 26 nautical miles. Significant upgrades were made to the station in 1953 with the addition of a weather station, followed by the integration of communications facilities in 1956. The lighthouse is situated on an island southeast of the entrance to Baía de Santos, near the city of Guarujá.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is the oldest on the coast of São Paulo, serving as a critical aid to maritime traffic entering Baía de Santos, the port of Santos.
