About Hambantota Lighthouse
The Hambantota Lighthouse, constructed from stone, is a round 14-meter tower. Originally built in 1913, its unpainted exterior featured dark and light stone, creating the visual effect of spiral bands. The structure includes a lantern and gallery. Adjacent to the lighthouse station, which also has a keeper's house, stands an early 19th-century Martello tower. The lighthouse has been inactive since the 1970s.
