About Hạ Mai Lighthouse
Built in 2005, the Hạ Mai Lighthouse stood on the southernmost point of Hạ Mai Island, approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Hạ Long. The yellow tower served as a guide for maritime traffic in the waters of Quảng Ninh province. Its light was a navigational aid for nearly two decades before ceasing operations. The lighthouse was located about 18.6 kilometers from the nearest port, Cam Pha.
Why it matters: Its strategic position warned vessels of Hạ Mai Island's presence, helping to prevent groundings on busy shipping routes.
