About Guǎfùjiāo Lighthouse
Also known as: Guǎfùjiāo (Guǎfù Jiāo, Widow Reef)
Guǎfùjiāo Lighthouse is a 15-meter cylindrical concrete tower situated on a reef in the southern Zhōushān harbor. First lit in 1995, it replaced an earlier station established in 1983. The tower features a hexagonal cylindrical concrete structure with a gallery, mounted on a round concrete pier. Its exterior is clad in black tiles on the upper sections and red tiles below. The focal height is 14 meters, emitting a white light with two flashes every five seconds. The geographic range is 11.6 nautical miles.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for mariners navigating the southern section of Zhōushān harbor, specifically warning them of the reef where it stands. Its unique tiled design also serves as a visual landmark in this busy shipping area.
