About Emine Lighthouse
Also known as: Emine (Nos Emine, Cape Emine)
Constructed in 1880, the Emine Lighthouse is a cylindrical masonry tower standing 9 meters tall, topped with a lantern and gallery. It is situated on Cape Emine, a notable promontory extending into the Black Sea approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Nessebar. The lighthouse emits a white light with a single flash every 6 seconds, visible for over 20 nautical miles. The structure is attached to a single-story keeper's house, and the focal height of the light is 64 meters above sea level. This station has been operational since its construction, serving maritime traffic along this stretch of the Bulgarian coast.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks Cape Emine, a significant headland posing a hazard to shipping and serving as the eastern end of the trans-European E3 footpath.
