About Dézhōudǎo Lighthouse
Also known as: Dézhōudǎo (Te Chou Tao, Luyu, Lu Hsu)
A cylindrical concrete tower, painted red, stands 8 meters high. This structure, featuring a lantern and gallery, was built in 1880 near the port of Xidi. It served to mark the island and warn vessels of its presence. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1997 after over a century of operation. Recent restoration efforts have preserved the tower. It now sits beside a newer lighthouse.
Why it matters: This lighthouse was critical for ships approaching the port of Xidi and navigating the coastal waters around Shantou, specifically warning against the hazards of Dézhōudǎo island.
