About Danshui Lighthouse
Also known as: Danshui (Tanshui, Tan-Shui Kang)
The Danshui Lighthouse, a 33-meter tall steel skeletal tower, began operation in 1970. Situated on land overlooking the Danshui River's entry point north of New Taipei City, the structure is painted white and has a square, tapering form. Its light produces a single white flash every 8 seconds, with a geographic range of 16.2 nautical miles. This lighthouse succeeded previous structures; one was lost during World War II. The location is open for visits, but the tower is not accessible.
Why it matters: This lighthouse serves as a marker for the Danshui River entrance, an important channel for local maritime traffic.
