About Daemaeyeo Lighthouse
Also known as: Daemaeyeo (Achado Northeast)
A 17-meter-tall cylindrical concrete tower, painted green, was constructed in 2007. It stands on a round concrete pier with a double gallery. The lighthouse emits a single green flash every six seconds from a focal height of 11 meters. This operational aid has a geographic range of 10.7 nautical miles. The structure is located off the northeast side of Achado island, approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Seokmodo, within the Ganghwa-gun region of South Korea. While the site can be reached by boat, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The Daemaeyeo lighthouse aids vessels navigating the waters between Achado and Seokmodo islands, helping them identify safe channels in this coastal area.
