This square masonry tower, completed in 2009, stands 15 meters tall and displays black and white horizontal bands. Its light emits a white flash every 10 seconds, visible for 19 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated on a small island off the southeastern tip of Great Andaman Island. It marks the entrance to the town of Chidiya Tapu and the MacPherson Strait, a waterway separating Great Andaman and Rutland Islands. The focal height of the light is 52 meters above sea level.
