Cassual Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Cassual Lighthouse
Constructed in 1904, Cassual Lighthouse is a 15-meter-high square tower made of masonry. This 4-story structure features a castellated gallery, though its lantern has been removed. It stands at the northern tip of Ilha do Mel, overlooking the entrance to the Paranaguá estuary. The lighthouse is situated across from the Paranaguá Range C lights and about 10.4 kilometers from the port of Paranaguá. While the tower itself is closed to visitors, the surrounding site is accessible, offering views of the estuary.
Why it matters: The lighthouse historically marked the entrance to the Paranaguá estuary, an important navigational point for ships approaching one of Brazil's primary ports. Its unique square masonry tower with a castellated gallery also distinguishes it as an architectural landmark.
