About Cap de Garde Lighthouse
The Cap de Garde lighthouse, built in 1884, is situated on a headland approximately 9 kilometers north of Annaba. The edifice is a 14-meter-high cylindrical stone tower with a square base, featuring a lantern and gallery, and is connected to a two-story stone dwelling. The light station began operations in 1841. Its light characteristic is a white flash every five seconds (Fl W 5s). With a focal height of 143 meters, the light's visibility extends to 29 nautical miles.
Why it matters: This lighthouse serves as the main landfall light for vessels nearing Annaba, assisting them in safely navigating around the Cap de Garde headland. Its current stone structure was erected in 1884.
