About Cap Beddouza Lighthouse
Also known as: Cap Beddouza (Cap Cantin)
In 1916, a white, square stone tower measuring 19 meters in height was constructed at Cap Beddouza, Morocco. The tower, which includes a lantern and gallery, is positioned centrally within a substantial square fort. Its light characteristic is a white flash every 10 seconds (Fl W 10s), observed from a focal height of 65 meters. This light is visible for a geographic range of 20.8 nautical miles. The lighthouse complex sits on a cape approximately 13.6 km from Safi. Access to the site is permitted, but entry into the tower is restricted.
Why it matters: This navigation aid marks a significant cape for vessels traveling the Atlantic coast north of Safi. The structure's incorporation into a large square fort presents an interesting example of combined defensive and navigational construction.
