About Callao South Breakwater Lighthouse
The Callao South Breakwater light once stood at the end of the breakwater for Callao's commercial harbor. Constructed of metal, this cylindrical red tower measured 15 meters in height with a focal plane of 8 meters. It emitted a single green flash every 5 seconds, visible for 10 nautical miles. The lighthouse itself was described as a round barbell-shaped tower. Its operational status ceased in 2022, and the structure has since been removed. The breakwater it was situated on has also been dismantled.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marked the terminus of the south breakwater, guiding vessels into and out of Callao's commercial harbor.
