About Cabo de Sines Lighthouse
Built in 1880, the Cabo de Sines lighthouse features a white, cylindrical masonry tower 22 meters high. Its light source is situated 56 meters above sea level, offering a range of 19.5 nautical miles. The structure is composed of two levels, topped with a lantern and two galleries, and extends from the front of an attached two-story keeper's residence. An additional upper section was built onto the tower in 1980. The light characteristic is a single white flash every 15 seconds (Fl W 15s). It is situated about 1.2 kilometers west of Sines.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the headland near Sines, providing navigation for vessels approaching the Portuguese coast in the Setúbal region.
