About Bēngtángjiǎo Range Rear Lighthouse
This concrete cylindrical tower, standing 59 meters tall, was built in 2007 near Zhanjiang City, China. Its white finish featured a black vertical stripe on the range line, and it had a large round observation structure beneath the light. The rear range light was situated 1.48 kilometers west of the front light, establishing a navigational alignment. Its operational period was limited, with the structure being removed in 2014. The light emitted a white flash every 4 seconds, visible for 20.5 nautical miles.
Why it matters: As a range rear light, the Bēngtángjiǎo structure guided vessels along a precise course. Its removal in 2014 suggests a swift adaptation to changing maritime technologies or navigational needs in the region.
