This masonry lighthouse, painted white, was constructed in 1903. Standing 11 meters tall, its light reaches a focal height of 12 meters and provides a geographic range of 11 nautical miles. The light emits a white flash every 9 seconds. Located near the port office in Bhimunipatnam, also known as Bheemili, it sits at the mouth of the Gosthani River, about 25 kilometers northeast of Vishakhapatnam. Although demolition plans were announced and then dropped in 2013, the original tower remains operational and open to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks the entrance to the historic Bhimunipatnam seaport and has local historical value, having survived past demolition proposals.
