About Bhavnagar Port Range Rear Lighthouse
The Bhavnagar Port Range Rear lighthouse was a square skeletal tower constructed of steel, standing 25 meters tall. It guided ships in the marshland west of Bhavnagar port, assisting vessels entering the narrow passage to the new port. The Gujarat Maritime Board operated this navigational aid. The tower, located approximately 1 kilometer from Bhavnagar port, collapsed in 2021.
Why it matters: This light was essential for guiding ships through the challenging, narrow entrance to the new Bhavnagar port, ensuring safe passage for commercial traffic.
