About Astros Lighthouse
Also known as: Astros (Ákra Astros)
This stone lighthouse, built in 1893, stands on a promontory at the eastern entrance to the harbor of Astros. The cylindrical tower, which measures 7 meters in height, is white with a blue dome and has a focal height of 23 meters. It emits a white flash every 3 seconds, visible for 13.8 nautical miles. The structure includes a lantern and gallery attached to a small, one-story keeper's house. Although it was removed from the Admiralty list in 2008, it remains operational. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides vessels into the harbor of Astros on the Argolic Gulf and its distinct architecture provides a glimpse into late 19th-century Greek lighthouse design.
