About Arta District Lighthouse Lighthouse
This white stone lighthouse, standing 9 meters tall, was built in 1893. It is located at the end of a sandy spit in the northeastern Gulf of Amvrakikos, south of Aliki. The cylindrical stone tower features red trim. Its light emits two white or red flashes every 16 seconds, visible for 10 nautical miles. The lantern has been removed from the tower, but it remains operational. The keeper's cottage adjacent to the lighthouse was restored in 2000 and now serves as a museum.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks the hazardous spit of Ákra Kópraina, essential for safe navigation in the northeastern Gulf of Amvrakikos. Its restored keeper's cottage also serves as a museum, preserving local maritime history.
