About Abū Minqār Lighthouse
Abū Minqār lighthouse is a red, cylindrical tower made of stone and fiberglass. Standing 9 meters tall with its focal height also at 9 meters, it is mounted on a stone pier. The structure features a distinctive hourglass shape, characteristic of modern lighthouse design. This lighthouse emits a red flash every 5 seconds, providing a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. Located opposite the Hurghada waterfront, it is situated on a reef in the Red Sea region. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns mariners of the reef's southeast extremity, safeguarding maritime traffic, particularly local vessels and pleasure craft navigating the system off Hurghada and ensuring safe passage along this busy stretch of the Red Sea.
